Reaching for Earned Confidence

Movement of the week:

Overhead Reaching Side Bend

A beautifully involved movement that will show you how to flex, rotate and reach. You’ll notice the relationships between your shoulders, side body and hips, and new sensations and challenges will be revealed as you gently test your limits.

If you've seen this series on insta, but haven't tried it before... this is your cue. Train it in a way that would allow you to come back and do more within a couple days. A 0-100 attitude is likely to give you an enjoyable experience on this one, haha!

Insight of the week:

Clarity of Intention + Actions Over Time = Rate of Progress

Clarity of Intention: Don't forget to combine a feeling + an outcome. Many of us forget one of these, and fixate on the other. And don't worry if your intention doesn't seem perfect. We learn to ask better questions and aim for more specific things, with practice.

Actions Over Time: One great shot means nothing. One shit shot means nothing. The perpetual rule is... suspend judgement correct the obvious flaws and take another shot. You cannot master something without many, many, many, shots.

Rate of Progress: It's not about where you're at. It's about your trajectory over time. There is no "right" place to be. There's just where you are, now. There is no "correct" outcome... just the outcome you're focusing on, right now. There is no "wrong" thing to feel. Just what you're feeling, and whether that feeling feels as though it's part of your path to fulfilment.

Remember, ALL OR NOTHING / PERFECTIONISM IS THE ENEMY. Avoiding making mistakes is not helpful if you want to clarify your intention and improve your actions over time. Mistakes are valuable feedback. If you're alive, you're in a creative process, always changing, iterating, evolving. You can't control everything, and there are no absolutes. What you get to do is choose whether you make your process more conscious and fulfilling, or less conscious and fulfilling.

What I’ve been doing:

Evaluating my progress in every area of life, in three ways:

1. Noticing how I feel while taking key actions

2. Noticing the sustainability of those actions

3. Noticing the results of those actions

This is bringing me a sense of freedom/agency, momentum and earned confidence.
