Kipping, Priority Matrix + Daily Rhythms

Movement of the week: Kipping

(no, it's not cheating... it's just different)

Watch Time: 1 min 38s

Why: Kipping chin-ups are an epic tool. They get you practicing moving from the MIDSECTION outward (core to extremities), so you can transmit power through your whole body like a whip. This is universally helpful.

Benefits: A lot of people struggle with a feeling of disconnection between their upper and lower bodies. For example, I was all about doing STRICT pull ups, but this emphasis on tempo and upper body ROM rather than body connection meant that even though I had cute muscles, my midline wasn't doing shit. Also, my shoulder's weren't strong in a very open, exposed overhead range. Kipping taught me to progressively manage forces in this range under load.

Insight of the week: Prioritise, or struggle. Up to you.

Doing more things is a great way to water yourself down and become ineffective.

Life isn't about adding more things.

Don't dilute your energy.

Make the most of what you have, by stripping away what isn't vital and doubling down on what is.

Unfortunately the default pattern in times of stress is often to get more scatter-brained, when that's exactly the opposite of what will help.

Sit down, take a few breaths ruthlessly cull things that don't need to be actioned right now.

The feeling of space / time this creates is so worth it, and absolutely vital in times of growth or challenge.

Joelle (hi Joelle) reminded me of the all-powerful Eisenhower Matrix:

What I’ve been doing: Restoring daily rhythms.

I've just arrived back in Byron after a month in Melbourne between leases. So, here's how days are starting off.

1. Morning run-walks with my dog Nero followed by chugging 1L salted/mineralised water or hydralite

2. A brief check-in with today's priorities (the table above will be getting a lot of use)

3. Fuelling with a big breakfast... Something delicious + healthy.

4. Getting into whatever it is that's high priority for the day, be that mentorship calls, content planning or shamelessly plugging my upcoming baseline coaching program that you can read all about here: https://www.notion.so/becomingattuned/Baseline-Coaching-Info-c2e9dce8c3184f208c3e7c80d1daa553?pvs=4

Have a fantastic Monday
By the way, it's a solar eclipse today.
I use these things as excuses to lean in even harder to the things I love, and let the rest be.

Are events like this significant to you? How so? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

- Jack
